Actor of The Week: Chris Parnel

Thomas Christopher "Chris" Parnell (/ pɑːrˈnɛl /; lahir 5 Februari 1967) adalah seorang aktor, pengisi suara, komedian dan penyanyi Amerika. Dia adalah anggota pemain di Saturday Night Live dari 1998 hingga 2006 dan memainkan peran Dr. Leo Spaceman di 30 Rock. Dalam animasi, ia menyuarakan Cyril Figgis di Archer seri FX, Jerry Smith di Adult Swim's Rick and Morty dan narator di seri PBS WordGirl. Dia juga menyuarakan "Kotak Progresif" dalam serangkaian iklan oleh Progressive Corporation.

Parnell lahir di Memphis, Tennessee, dari keluarga Baptis Selatan. Ayahnya, Jack Parnell, adalah seorang tokoh radio di Memphis. Dia pertama kali menghadiri Pusat Pendidikan Baptis Selatan, dan kemudian lulus dari SMA Germantown. Dia memutuskan untuk berakting sebagai karier pada usia 17, dan mengarahkan pandangannya untuk menjadi aktor teater. Dia menghadiri Sekolah Seni Universitas Carolina Utara di mana dia menerima BFA di Drama. Dia pindah ke Houston, Texas setelah kuliah untuk melakukan program aktor magang selama satu musim di Teater Alley, tetapi tidak diminta kembali untuk bergabung dengan perusahaan. Dia menjadi kecewa sejenak dengan akting, dan kembali ke kota asalnya dan mengajar di sekolah menengah selama satu tahun. Saat tampil sebagai pemain perusahaan dengan Groundlings selama beberapa tahun, Parnell mulai melakukan iklan dan mendapatkan peran tamu di berbagai sitkom, seperti Seinfeld dan Murphy Brown. Dia disewa untuk bergabung dengan para pemain Saturday Night Live sebagai pemain utama, dan debut di acara itu pada tanggal 26 September 1998. Pada 22 September 2006, diumumkan bahwa tiga anggota pemeran telah di-PHK: Parnell; Horatio Sanz; dan Finesse Mitchell. Parnell menyuarakan Fly dalam film animasi Hotel Transylvania dan Hotel Transylvania 2, dan Stan the Fishman dalam film ketiga, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation. Dia adalah seri reguler di serial animasi FX Archer, dan juga dikenal karena penampilan tamunya sebagai Dr. Leo Spaceman di 30 Rock. Dia juga menyediakan suara narator pada seri anak-anak PBS WordGirl. Dari 2011 hingga 2014, Parnell ikut membintangi serial komedi ABC Suburgatory di mana ia berperan sebagai suami karakter yang diperankan oleh mantan kasta SNL Ana Gasteyer. Perannya dimulai sebagai berulang di musim pertama tetapi dia bertemu dengan seri reguler di musim kedua. Serial ini ditayangkan selama tiga musim di ABC. 

Parnell memberikan suara "Kotak Progresif" dalam iklan untuk Asuransi Progresif. 

Parnell menyuarakan Jerry di acara Adult Swim, Rick and Morty.

Pada 16 Maret 2018, Parnell berperan dalam peran utama Wayne di sitkom CBS Happy Together.
